Deep-Ocean Science, Technology and Conservation

21st Century Opportunities and Imperatives

The deep ocean had remained hidden since the dawn of history, and only been visited in recent years with the help of modern technology. With the aid of miniature submarines, both autonomous and manned, it is now possible to reach these areas, in some cases up to 6000 metres below sea level.
The speakers will describe the technology required to explore the great ocean depths, and will present exciting information about the scientific discoveries of minerals and unique ecosystems. These resources may be needed by mankind, so conservation measures to ensure that the seafloor is protected against any environmental damage from this exploration will also be explored.

This free event, hosted by the University of Hertfordshire, will commence with refreshments and networking in an informal environment.

Venue: Weston Auditorium, UH, Hatfield, AL10 9EU
