NOTE: This presentation is designed for practicing counselors, vocational evaluators, and other professionals with a MS degree. As a rehabilitation counselor or related professional, you are required to practice ethically in order to provide quality services for clients and to keep yourself out of trouble. HPSO, the primary malpractice insurance company for counselors, released a study in 2014 of claims paid. The top three areas were inappropriate sexual/romantic relationship with a client, failure to practice within the boundaries of competence, and sharing of confidential information. Using case studies and discussion, this workshop will focus on client/counselor relationships, boundaries, risks to confidentiality, and social media. An application of a problem solving model will be applied to manage the dilemma. Additional information on changes in the CRCC code of ethics will be included.
