Novembers focus: Middle splits (box) / Pancake
“DO A SPLIT!” – you’ll most likely have bleated at you when you talk about how you like to stretch and, in their defence, not much else carries such weight as being able to slide towards the ground and have your legs allow it.
The middle split and the pancake are two positions that are sought after in many disciplines, from gymnastics, dance and circus arts to martial arts.
In this 4 week course, a comprehensive method of learning and programming for the middle splits and pancake will be taught, covering various techniques applicable to all levels of expertise, as well as individualising the positions for your own hip structure.
What is the middle split?
Opening and strengthening the adductors
Strengthening the abductors and glutes
Partner resistance exercises
Serious middle splits work
Various isometric types
How middle splits relates to the pancake
Two levelled pancake exercises
Individualised practice for the middle splits and pancake
Starts with the last beneficial exercises for pancake
Then allow for time to people to work on elements they find hardest/want to improve on and I provide advice.
Isaac started training as an adult and quickly gravitated towards the concepts and methods surrounding getting more flexible. After realising how a lot of the general stretching recommendations didn’t work he started to explore the most potent methods for increasing flexibility and how I could apply them to his practice. This resulted in greatly improving his ability to handstand and Olympic lift, as well as giving him the ability to feel free in my movement.
Mentorship plays a large role in any physical practice, as a current student of Emmet Louis, Isaac understands the importance in having someone to guide you through the seemingly complex and daunting process of gaining flexibility.
His current goal is to transfer this knowledge to other adults who want to gain flexibility, access ranges of motion that they didn’t think possible and to allow people to come away with a sense of appreciation and amazement at the capabilities of their own bodies.
