This course embraces art history as our starting point through which to explore the universal rules that underpin painting; composition, colour, and application. We will also reference how the past informs contemporary painting practice.

Through projected presentations and historical references you will gain insight into your own painting development, gradually building confidence within an authentic visual language.

Referencing historical paintings from the past as our starting point, you will begin the process of deconstructing from your observational drawings. Through this process, we will address the void between observed reality and abstraction.

During the course we will also cover the use of new acrylic paints and mediums, what are they, and how they can be used to maximum effect.
