This weekend workshop is aimed at beginners and those who wish to rejuvenate their practice. We will be working directly from the life model.
Drawing is central to all artistic practice. The expression of ideas, or rather the expressive potential of ideas, can best be realized through the intimate process of drawing. Drawing deepens our understanding of the world around us and allows us to reflect on the particular and acts as a historical “continuum”.
Painting is drawing with a brush. In order to paint well, one needs conceptual skills well honed by drawing practice. The brush or pencil is an extension of the eye passing over the figure. The artist works from within to find the measure of things. Art making is as much about experimentation both with the subject matter and material as it is about ‘picture making.’
More importantly, it is about looking or learning to see.
