Browne School of Art is excited to be able to introduce etching.

This is a hands-on technical workshop with clear demonstrations and information given at each stage. We will be using a 6-1 nitric acid water mix to etch our zinc plates in a safe environment with good ventilation. We will start with hard ground line etching and soft ground techniques, which will allow us to create impressions from found materials, helping us build an image onto plates.

Aquatint is a technique to add tone, shade and create velvety blacks and this will be achieved using enamel spray.

Techniques will be introduced until everyone has a good understanding and has achieved the desired effect.

Some materials required for this workshop are supplied and included in your course fee, and students will need to buy some materials from BSA including: zinc plate, a drypoint etching needle, Hahnemühle paper, tissue paper.
