Castles, Woods and Wildlife: Exploring the countryside surrounding Berkhamsted (1901)

Saturday, 27 May '23   9:30am – 1:30pm BST
Berkhamsted train station, Lower Kings Road, Berkhamsted, HP4 2AR
6 spaces available

Details

This circular walk begins from outside Berkhamsted Train Station. We start our walk passing the historic castle, before very gradually heading uphill towards the Common. The Common and its surrounds once hosted troops stationed here before they went off to war, it’s mostly wooded now with beech and oak. At the tranquil little hamlet of Frithsden we will take a rest by the green where the Alford Arms is usually open in case the weather is inclement. To return we go through the village of Potten End, down Bullbeggars Lane and then along the Grand Union Canal.
Along the way we will take some short stops to highlight points of interest.
