Detaljer

As people with chronic conditions we have a lot to juggle in life and we can easily find ourselves spiralling into heightened feelings of stress and overwhelm. Juggling home life, finance, socialising and relationships with the unpredictability of debilitating symptoms and/or pain and medical routines can cause chronic stress and anxiety; so much so, that it feels "normal".

Chronic illness is a major cause for our body to sense a threat to our physical safety, stimulating our innate survival responses, which can feel like stress and not feeling calm or able to cope, as well as physical sensations like breath & heart rate alterations, aching limbs. headaches, sleep and digestive issues or fatigue.

In this 8 week short course on Navigating Stress & Anxiety with Chronic Illness we will be exploring and understanding our own stress responses, in a safe and gentle way, and using a practical Somatic Approach for simple ways to track and respond effectively to your emotional state in any given moment.

The Somatic Approach is fast becoming the medically recognised most effective method for stress and anxiety, or 'nervous system dysregulation'.

This course will revolutionise the way you relate to your body and emotions, offering you an empowered way of expanding your ability to deal with your life situations in a more effective way, working to reduce your stress levels and anxiety that doesn't involve rushing in to fix it, talking over it with affirmations or denying it with 'positivity'.

This course is specifically created for those like myself with chronic illness, who sometimes or regularly struggle with anxiety and stress and the feeling of being overwhelmed.

In this course you will:

  • Gain a simple biological understanding of YOUR stress responses, anxiety and overwhelm.
  • Learn how to track your emotions and the corresponding physical sensations, keeping you aware and informed of your state

  • Learn to notice and be with the uncomfortable sensations of increased stress and anxiety WITHOUT going into overwhelm

  • Learn how to respond to your body and mind's calls for support, nurturing and feelings of safety (the start of stress/anxiety/overwhelm)

  • Create an ever growing toolbox of 'Resources' to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety and feel more safe, calm and supported.

  • Learn how to 'regulate' your nervous system, in the long term leading to neurobiological change towards greater personal resilience

  • Connect with a community of people who experience similar situations to yourself, learning and sharing together
