Highdown Gardens-Recently restored

Details

Created by Sir Frederick and Lady Stern who bought the land in 1909 in a chalk quarry on a steep slope. They searched the world for chalk-loving plants, using plant hunters of the day and developing an astonishing collection of flora.
Now owned by Worthing Council, managed by their team and recognised as a National Plant Collection in1989.
More recently a National Lottery grant has funded a new visitors' centre and sensory garden.

Weitere Informationen

This is a free entry garden, but we have the privilege of a guided tour by Alex New, the Head gardener at either 10.30 or 12.00.
Car Parking: There are limited spaces at the main Highdown Hill car park at the top of Highdown Rise just outside the main entrance to the gardens. There is also an additional overflow turfed car park. If both car parks are full there is a further car park at the bottom of Highdown Rise. There are three disabled parking bays next to Highdown Gardens entrance.
