This course will cover foundational fusion belly dance technique, building on movements step by step, suitable for beginners and dancers wanting to tighten up their technique. Doe believes it is impossible to cover the basics too many times and has studied them herself with multiple international master instructors. She feels you can tell a strong dancer by their execution of the simple moves- a basic chest circle can be performed in many ways and convey many meanings!
The initial 6 week (6 hour) course is the first part of the full 10 hour fusion foundations course (the final 4 weeks of the course will be offered following on from this one should there be demand for it- if you want it we'll do it!). Either way, on completion of this course students will be able to join the ongoing fusion class where we learn routines and have the opportunity to perform in a show!
Doe's fusion style is a take on MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic, Turkish) belly dance with influences from urban, contemporary and jazz dance, plus Gothic and alternative subcultures. Routines are varied and can have a dark haunting mood, or a more glamorous "vintage vamp" feel. The style is characterised by smooth flowing movements contrasted with sharp staccato isolations and shimmies.
Wear clothes you can move in, such as workout clothes. Optionally you can wear a hip scarf around your hips, barefoot or soft soled shoes are best. Bring water to drink.
