Details

Discover the remnants of the Waihi section of the old 1870’s wires track as it came via Waihi Beach and connected telegraphic communication between Auckland and Wellington.
The track follows a ridge behind the old dam. After a short steep section, the track levels out and includes remains of old kumara pits.

After reaching a beautiful stand of Rewarewa trees, we cross a fence onto private farmland where there are spectacular views over the Waihi plains to Mount Te Aroha. We follow the boundary line between the farmland and the Orokawa reserve, with great views along the way.

There is the option to add a walk out to Orokawa Trig at this stage.
We will then descend along a well-formed track down the Fire break track and down to the car park.
