This 2 day course (8th and 9th June) is aimed at the DSLs and their Deputies, it is vital for those new to the role and helpful for those who would like a refresher, particularly in light of all the recent updates and changes in guidance.
DSLs and their deputies do not have to attend this training but it helps to contextualise the role in a school.

During the course candidates will learn about:

The role and main responsibilities of the designated safeguarding lead
Understanding abuse and its impact
Values regarding child abuse and the impact of these on professional practice
Key legislation and guidance that determines your organisation's policy for child safety and welfare
Running a safe organisation, and look at what steps your organisation needs to take to look after the safety and welfare of the children and young people it comes into contact with
Predatory and grooming behaviours
The barriers that prevent children from reporting abuse
How to respond effectively to a child who does report abuse
The barriers that prevent staff from reporting concerns, and how to overcome them
The right decisions about what steps to take when concerns about a child have been raised
What is likely to happen following a referral to children's social care and what role the school or college has in the multi-agency child protection process, including case conferences
The issues connected to recording and sharing information, including confidentiality
An awareness of the emotional impact of safeguarding children and identify ways in which safeguarding lead can support staff
Your organisation's overarching policy and procedures
