YOUNG ARTISTS GROUP: ABSTRACT PAPER ART AND WEAVING

TUTOR
Becky lives in Dundee, and previously studied art at Edinburgh College of Art and at the Royal Drawing School in London. Her work is rooted in drawing which she uses as a starting point for making textiles, ceramics, installations and video. She explores memory, the body and storytelling and is interested in how digital technology has changed how we collect and look at images. She has been awarded residencies in Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, at Hackney’s Space Studios and in Scotland at Dumfries House, Embassy Gallery and Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. Becky has taught at the Royal Drawing School, House of Illustration, Barbican (London) and Hospitalfield (Arbroath).

ABSTRACT PAPER ART AND WEAVING

This is a relaxed and explorative class focussed on the art of weaving to create pattern, colour and abstract designs.

We will learn the principles of weaving through paper, and in doing so, discover new ways to make colourful, abstract drawings.

Using coloured paper, we will learn to make a paper 'loom' to take on an abstract design through weaving.

Exploring abstract patterns by cutting strips to different scales and working with varying colours, we will begin to experiment with simple drawings in crayon or oil pastel and creating new paper ‘weft’ for weaving, to make experimental drawings. 

Please note, these workshops will need a minimum of 6 attendees to run. If the minimum subscription is not reached, the class will unfortunately not go ahead.
