This is a sailing course for 12-16 year olds who have successfully completed the Irish Sailing Basic Skills course or an equivalent course from a recognised body (e.g. RYA).
The course runs for 2 weeks, Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4pm.
Dinghies, Personal floatation and wetsuits are provided as part of the course fee. Instruction is provided by Irish Sailing qualified Instructors with a ratio of 1 Instructor to every 12 children in 6 boats.
At the end of the course, participants will be able to sail confidently in light winds and moderate winds without the assistance of an instructor.
The course takes place at Galway Bay Sailing Club, Rinville, Oranmore. The course cost includes the use of a suitable sailing dinghy for the duration of the course.
We provide all Personal Floatation Devices and wetsuits. You will need to bring an old pair of canvas runners (these are better than soft-soled runners) or wetsuit bootees as footwear. Crocs, flip-flops or sandals are not suitable. A hat or beanie would be good also to keep your head warm or to keep the sun off depending on conditions. Bring and wear water-proof sun-cream such as P45.
Have something warm to wear after sailing. Showers are available after the course so maybe bring a towel if you wish. Bring a packed lunch, drinks and snacks for the day. There is no shop at GBSC or close by.
Finally a notebook and pen will be handy for taking notes during the theory section.
