RQT (Early Career) Programme
2 x full-day and 4 x half-day sessions
1 x half-day session for in-school mentors
Aimed at: Recently Qualified Primary Teachers in their 2nd or 3rd year of teaching

The second and third years of teaching are a crucial period for recently qualified teachers finding their feet, honing their classroom practice while beginning to shoulder increased responsibility. The Beechwood Teaching School Alliance RQT Programme aims to work in cooperation with in-school mentors to provide continued bespoke support: deepening knowledge and refining practice while providing opportunities for teachers to try out new approaches, evaluate their effectiveness and explore areas of leadership and potential career development. The training includes a broad mix of elective workshops matched to specific needs and in-school research and coaching linked to teachers’ and schools’ own priorities.

Day 1 - 20th September 2018, Beechwood Junior School, 9:00am – 4:00pm
(with in school mentors attending from 1:00pm): 2 x elective workshops on areas of need identified in advance by the teacher and their mentor, followed by dedicated time for teachers and mentors to develop a programme of support and enquiry.

Day 2 - 1st November 2018, 9:00am – 12:00pm:
elective lesson study at Beechwood Junior School or Townhill Infant School followed by group feedback and professional discussion. Lesson Study gap task.

Day 3 - 10th January 2019, 1:00pm – 5:00pm:
2 x elective workshops on areas of need identified in advance by teachers and their mentors. Lesson Study Gap Task (video).

Day 4 - 28th February 2019, 1:00pm – 5:00pm:
sharing event – Lesson Study presentations, feedback and professional discussion. Lesson Study Gap Task (video).

Day 5 - 25th April 2019, 1:00pm – 5:00pm:
sharing event – Lesson Study presentations, feedback and professional discussion. Research Gap Task.

Day 6 - 19th June 2019, 9:00am – 4:00pm:
sharing event – review of research and compilation of findings. Core training on career progression, specialisation and leadership.

The course will be facilitated by Andrew Crosby and SLE' s from across the Alliance.
