New Leaders Programme: Subject Leaders
4 x full day sessions with gap tasks.
Aimed at: Primary Subject Leaders who are new in role or would like to improve the effectiveness of their subject leadership.

The Beechwood Teaching School Alliance New Subject Leaders Programme offers practical training in the full range of duties expected of Subject Leaders including curriculum development, providing CPD and implementing and analysing the impact of whole-school changes and initiatives within their subject. Participants will work alongside experienced leaders and fellow subject leaders to explore and gain hands-on experience in all elements of the Subject Leader's role at an introductory level:
Action planning, writing subject policies, budgeting and resource management, identifying and providing for CPD needs, curriculum development, supporting with subject planning, evaluating progress, work scrutiny, monitoring and moderation, holding people to account, effective coaching and feedback and analysing and reporting on data.

Day 1 - 19th September 2018,Beechwood Junior School, 9:00am – 4:00pm -
The A - Z of Subject Leadership - an introduction to the role followed by an afternoon workshop on Action Planning. gap task: action planning and policy development.

Day 2 - 7th November 2018, Beechwood Junior School, 9:00am – 4:00pm:
the four corner stones of subject leadership: curriculum, progression/assessment, pedagogy, resources. Gap task: resource and CPD audit.

Day 3 - 16th January 2019, Beechwood Junior School, 9:00am – 4:00pm: identifying CPD needs, providing subject support and CPD, effective work scrutiny, planning scrutiny and moderation, coaching and mentoring. Gap task: work scrutiny and monitoring.

Day 4 - 26th February 2019, Beechwood Junior School, 9:00am – 4:00pm:
holding others to account, difficult conversations, analysing and reporting on data, taking the initiative and reporting to senior leaders and Ofsted.

The programme will be facilitated by Andrew Crosby and SLE’s from across the Hamwic Alliance
