The term process art refers to how materials and processes used in painting are revealed in its making and remain evident within the finished work. Artists who work in this way explore the relationships between their materials and methodology of application.

This course emphasises the materiality of paint and how making the making visible, can proffer meaning and elicit emotions in the viewer. By understanding paint as matter including, paint type, viscosity, texture, hardness, sheen, hue, fragility, resilience, flexibility, and absorbency, viewers can explore different sensations. Alongside this, there will be practical exploration and discussion of both traditional and non-traditional tools and processes.

This course will be of interest to representational painters as much as those working in abstraction.
