This is a two-part course on two consecutive mornings. To attend the whole course, please select 2-part ticket for £145 + VAT (you do not need to book separately onto Part 2).

DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE, Part 1:

  • DLA main eligibility rules
  • BREAK
  • The mobility component

Aims
This part of the course teaches the main eligibility rules within Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and goes on to introduce the disability criteria for the DLA mobility component.

Objectives
By the end of part 1 participants will:

  • Understand the basic eligibility rules for DLA including the age rules, the residence and presence rules and the required period rules.
  • Have become familiar with the different routes to claiming the mobility component of DLA.
  • Be able to help people complete the DLA application form in respect of the mobility component questions.

DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE, Part 2:

  • DLA care component
  • BREAK
  • Care component form filling

Aims
This part of the course teaches the disability criteria for the care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

By the end of part 2 participants will:

  • Understand the disability criteria within the care component of DLA.
  • Be able to complete the care component sections of the DLA application form.
  • Be able to check decisions are correct.

Methods of delivery
This course is delivered online live with a BTC trainer. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and case studies, group discussion and games. Participants will be provided with e-learning supporting material including PowerPoint slide handouts, a comprehensive training pack pdf and additional resources.

Intended audience
This course is for participants working with children under the age of 16 who are affected by a health condition or a disability. No previous experience is required although a working knowledge of the wider benefits system is helpful. This course is suitable for participants working in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is not suitable for those working in Scotland.

What you will need
You will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. Prior to the event, BTC will email you a link which you should use to join the event.

Instrukciók

This online course is run over Zoom. In the week before the course, you will receive an email with Zoom link(s) and access the supporting materials. You will need to download (or print) the pack (and slides, if you wish) before each part of the course, unless you have selected a printed pack when booking.

You will need a good wifi connection and a suitable computer/laptop to access both the Zoom session and the pack throughout. You may wish to use a separate device for the pack (or split your screen) if you cannot or do not wish to print.

We recommend participants log in a few minutes beforehand. You may also wish to have a pen and paper handy to make notes.
