Loss and Grief in Children

In this three-hour training, you will explore not only how loss and grief affects children specifically, but how to help children cope through loss. This interactive, research-based session introduces the general concepts of loss and grief, addresses common losses in a child's life as well as common grief reactions, busts myths surrounding feelings of grief, and explores activities for guiding children through their grief process. In addition, this session explores COVID specific grief and where we draw the line between grief & trauma. This session is designed to help anyone who interacts with children - from parents to caregivers to teachers alike.

Objectives:

  • Identify the most common losses in a child's life
  • Identify the most common grief reactions present in children
  • Discuss the most common myths surrounding how children grieve
  • Develop strategies & learn activities to help children cope with grief
