Relationship-Based Practice – Communication & Grief

Human connection is at the core of healthy relationships. The quality of that connection has the power to help us understand, grieve, and communicate in a way that promotes strength within the stories of others. This three-day Relationship Based Practice training will help human service professionals unpack some of the more difficult conversations with supporting families and communities. Throughout the training, we will explore tools and science that equip us to communicate effectively while maintaining the connections needed to support growth, learning, and healing.

Objectives

  • Explore communication styles that enable others to act by focusing on emotional safety and connection.
  • Discover the element of loss and grief that support effective communication and support for persons coping and experiencing hardship.
  • Examine the role of unconscious bias and how it shows up in our communication with others.
  • Discuss the risks of hearing the trauma stories of others and the potential of experiencing vicarious trauma.
  • Discover and share strategies for self-sustainability and self-compassion for people working in human service.
