Leicester Teaching School is pleased to be able to offer this valuable opportunity for Governors to work together on improving the quality of Governance in our schools, thereby improving the life chances of our young people.

Objectives of the workshop

At the end of the workshop, delegates will:

  • Know the definition of ‘disadvantaged pupils’ and the funding they attract
  • Be clear on the role of the Governing Body and its accountability for Pupil Premium
  • Know what data is available and how it can be used to ask the right questions
  • Be aware of whole-school strategies that have been successful and effective.

The workshop is facilitated by Nick Thornber. Nick has been a teacher in both primary and secondary schools, as well as being Head Teacher at a special school. He currently works on several DfE leadership development programmes and is a trained leadership coach. In addition, he has 12 years’ experience as a governor and is an experienced governor trainer.

The online workshop will be structured as follows:

  • 4.40pm to 5.00pm - log on when ready
  • 5.00pm to 6.30pm - workshop led by Nick Thornber
  • 6.30pm to 7.00pm - optional Q&A session
