Marlborough Primary School, Draycott Avenue, London, SW3 3AP
Ekstasis Outdoor Rooftop 5Rhythms Ecstatic Dance

Details

ékstasis - The removal of the mind or body from its normal place of function

We will be dancing outdoors on a soft and squishy urban rooftop with silent disco headsets!

Ecstatic dance has been practised throughout human history, and is a form of dance that has no need to follow specific steps, that allows us to abandon ourselves to the rhythm and move freely as the music takes us, leading to trance and a feeling of ecstasy.

Modern ecstatic dance was revived by Gabrielle Roth in the 1970s and formalised in her 5Rhythms practice.

In this mode of Ecstatic Dance we will use Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms map called The Wave.

Expect the unexpected, encourage the unconventional and leave nothing at the door - invite every aspect of your being to show up and dance!

All ages and physicalities welcome. This class will be facilitated with an invitation for you to discover your own intuition. However, I encourage you to attend at least one led 5Rhythms class with a 5Rhythms Teacher as a prerequisite so that you get maximum benefit from your participation.

And remember - if you don't to your dance - who will?

About Stuart
Stuart is an accredited 5Rhythms teacher. He first danced the 5Rhythms in 2007 and has been teaching since 2018.

His teachings are practical and are rooted in inviting awareness to the physical body that we each inhabit. His work has been described as bringing clarity and simplicity to the practice of embodied movement...

"I am discovering for myself that the 5Rhythms is the practice of awakening the body that enables us human beings to begin to unravel for ourselves who we are underneath all those layers".

Stuart's classes count towards the 5Rhythms Teacher Training prerequisite hours (Waves).
