Instructor: Nicholas WazeeGale

Come away from the busy world to enjoy a couple days immersed in the rhythms of the Earth and our woodland relations. Hike to a remote corner of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve to set a simple tarp shelter, care for our needs and nourishment around a central fire, and enjoy the challenges, comforts, and inspiration of time spent outdoors. Skills focused on will be bow drill fire making, fire tending, safe foraging of wild edibles, plant and animal ID, direction finding, safe water sourcing, site selection, wilderness safety, shelter and some crafting of vessels and utensils. Much shall be learned also by way of simply being outdoors and taking time to be attentive and aware of the land’s cues and nuances. Our group will be small. The dynamic will be cooperative. Respect for each other, our surroundings, and our resources serious. Be prepared for a moderately athletic couple of days with some challenges and discomforts to be tolerated. Simple and wholesome fare, supplemented with foraged wild foods, will be provided, as will raw materials for some projects. A gear list will be sent out to participants prior to program.
