Revamp & Reconstruct!
Create your own zero waste fabric from offcuts of deadstock donated designer fabric, or revamp something from home! This term you will create a new sustainable piece to add to your wardrobe. Using your creativity and imagination when given a selection of specifically chosen offcuts and scrap fabrics from your tutor, who will help you make your design come alive. You will design & develop a completely original garment or accessory, from a Bomber Jacket to Dungarees, an upcycled Lounge Co-ord to a Sports Bag! You will be using patchwork, appliqué and fabric manipulation techniques to create a truly stand-out piece!

Term Overview:
Week 1-2: Start designing! Become a fashion designer, learn about the importance of using up scraps and fashion circularity whilst designing your unique garment/accessory.
Week 3-6: Choose fabrics, techniques and options and start cutting.
Week 7-9: Continue developing your garment, combining any techniques learnt to construct your design.
Week 10-12: Complete your look! Add any finishing touches or finishes to your look.

Example Term Schedule:
Week 1: Introduction to the project, choose your sustainable fabrics and develop designing through collage.
Week 2: Cut out the bodice in your chosen fabric and begin to sew.
Week 3: Students will choose a sleeve style, learn basic sleeve adaptation and cut out the pattern in their chosen fabric.
Week 4: Learn how to sew the sleeves to the bodice!
Week 5: Collar Week! Students will learn about various fashionable collar styles and have the option to add one to their summer top.
Week 6: Finishing touches to the students top!
Week 7: Moving on: skirt or shorts? Will it be a two piece outfit or will you combine the two to make a playsuit or dress? Students will choose from our selection of sustainable fabric and cut out the pattern.
Week 8: Start to sew your chosen design!
Week 9: Students will learn about various types of closures in fashion. The tutor will give a demonstration on sewing closures, for example, button holes or zips etc.
Week 10: Choose and sew your closure and add any trims such as binding, ribbons etc.
Week 11: Think about accessories and design details. Will you add a matching hair accessory or maybe a purse or some embroidery?
Week 12: Add the finishing touches to your completed sustainable summer outfit!
