We are so excited to be able to offer more provision for children and young people in Alternative and Home Education with our brand new Wellness Fridays group!

This will begin on Friday 10th June, 9.30am-2.30pm, for 6 consecutive weeks.

For children and young people aged 5-16, these Forest School sessions are designed for Home Educated and Flexi Schooled children (without their grown ups) and will support your child’s development, resilience, wellbeing and communication.

They are also suitable for children and young people who are struggling in formal education and would benefit from some additional support mid week.

Participants will develop new skills in fire lighting, woodland crafts, tool use and woodland management. They will become part of a new community of learners, forging new friendships and supporting each other to learn. They will gain new knowledge and understanding about the natural world. We do not follow a curriculum, we follow the child’s natural thirst for learning, using our 33 acres of Ancient Woodland as an inspiring backdrop for their development.

The practitioners leading these sessions have additional skills, training and experience working with children and young people with additional needs, who may otherwise struggle in a formal education setting.

The sessions are intended as an ‘alternative to school’, so parents will not be expected to stay with their children. We often find that children who have struggled in the classroom thrive in an outdoor child centred setting, however, we cannot offer 1-1 support so if your child has specific additional needs please get in touch before you book.

Each session will start at 9.30am, with a walk to the site. We will take part in group and individual activities, and each session will be planned based on the observations of each child the previous week. Preparing and eating food together is a key part of our Forest School delivery, but it has been made more difficult in practise due to Covid-19. We therefore ask that you send your child with a packed lunch, drinking water and snacks, which they will be able to access at any point through the day. Collection is at 2.30pm prompt.

If you would like to read our Covid-19 policy visit https://www.stomping-grounds.org/policies-and-procedures/. If you would like to read our safeguarding policy and handbook, they are available on our website too.

We are hoping to reserve 50% of our spaces for children and young people from historically excluded groups, such as members of the LGBTQ community, differently abled young people, BAME young people and young people from low socioeconomic households.

We’re here to help so email sophiew@stomping-grounds.org with any questions.

We continue to take Covid transmissions seriously and will ensure regular handwashing and promotion of catch it bin it kill it approach. If your child has Covid or Covid symptoms we ask that they do not attend our setting. If you have any concerns or questions about the updated Covid guidance please ask.

These sessions will be lead by Carolin who can be contacted on 07908473506
