Details

This course provides a comprehensive and practical guide to Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and how limited capability for work affects Universal Credit. It looks at the assessment process and how to trouble-shoot typical problems.

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Know who can claim ESA and/or UC because they are currently unable to work;
  • Understand the ESA/UC claims process;
  • Be able to use the Work Capability Assessment criteria effectively;
  • Know how to get ESA payments restarted when they are stopped following a failure to return forms and/or attend a medical appointment;
  • Be able to guide claimants through the appeals process;
  • Be aware of the options for returning to work in both legacy benefits and Universal Credit;
  • Have an awareness of how and when ESA claimants are likely to be affected by Universal Credit;
  • Have access to advice regarding any course-related question for 12 months after the course.

The course will be delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, group work and exercises, case studies and games and is important for any advisors, support workers, HR teams and all professionals who work with people of working age affected by a health problem or a disability.

Please read through the attached Terms document before booking on to the course. Booking assumes acceptance of our Terms & Conditions.
