SPACE @ Auckland Playcentres Association is a programme mainly for first time parents and their babies. The Space programme runs for 3 terms (approximately 30 weeks). Groups meet every week during the school term. Sessions are run by Space trained facilitators. Programmes are currently run in locations across Central Auckland (Herne Bay, Freemans Bay, Newmarket, Remuera, Mt Eden, Morningside, Mt Albert, Onehunga), West Auckland (New Windsor, Lynfield), East/South Auckland (Pakuranga, Cockle Bay, Glen Innes, Ellerslie, Mt Wellington, Mangere Bridge) and North Auckland (Coatesville, Mairangi Bay, Takapuna, Totaravale)
The Space Programme has two focus areas, the first being The Heart of Parenting & The Growing Child. The second focus is on Exploring Play and concentrates on providing play experiences for the infants alongside their parents. Families enrol at one centre that is running Space, and commit to attending that programme regularly. Babies joining a new Space session are generally between 6 weeks and 5 months of age and parents stay on session with their babies.
Due to the structure of the Space programme, it is necessary to group together babies of similar ages. It may be necessary to travel to a centre that is running a Space programme appropriate for your baby's age and development
