Space @ Western Bay of Plenty Playcentres

Space for you and your baby, is a programme mainly for first time parents and their babies. The Space programme runs for 3 terms (approximately 30 weeks). Groups meet every week during the school term. Sessions are run by Space trained facilitators.

The Space Programme has two focus areas, the first being The Heart of Parenting & The Growing Child. The second focus is on Exploring Play and concentrates on providing play experiences for the infants alongside their parents. There is a range of discussion topics covered and may vary according to group interests or needs. Occasionally guest speakers are invited to deliver specialized topics.

A typical Space session Focus: The Heart of Parenting & The Growing Child

Informal time of welcoming, relaxing & interaction; thoughts and sharing moments; songs, music/movement, rhymes and book; discussion or guest speaker on the topic of the week; play opportunities; making resources and social time.

Families enrol at one centre that is running Space, and commit to attending that programme regularly. Babies joining a new Space session are generally between 3 weeks and 4 months of age and parents stay on session with their infants.

Due to the structure of the Space programme, it is necessary to group together babies of similar ages. It may be necessary to travel to a centre that is running a Space programme appropriate for your baby's age and development
