Highdown Gardens-Recently restored

Details

Created by Sir Frederick and Lady Stern who bought the land in 1909 in a chalk quarry on a steep slope. They searched the world for chalk-loving plants, using plant hunters of the day and developing an astonishing collection of flora.
Now owned by Worthing Council, managed by their team and recognised as a National Plant Collection in1989.
More recently a National Lottery grant has funded a new visitors' centre and sensory garden.

Instructions

This is a free entry garden, but we have the privilege of a guided tour by Alex New, the Head gardener at either 10.30 or 12.00.
