In this course you will have the opportunity to explore some of the ideas embedded in traditional Japanese painting.
Shodo and ‘The Way of the Brush’
Sumi-e is an ancient art form that came to Japan from China via Korea around the 14th century. In its simplicity and concentration it is related to Zen Buddhism.
Under the guidance of experienced artist and tutor Andrew Parry, you will be able to learn some of these approaches to using traditional brushes, ink and paper.
Learn how to paint an ‘Enso’, traditionally drawn using one brush stroke.
Letting go of the mind and allowing the body to create, the singular brushstroke allows for no modifications.
This is a fun workshop with plenty of practical activities and peppered with interesting bits of information
All materials brushes, ink and paper are provided so you just need to bring yourself and clothes you don’t mind getting ink on
