Detaljer

On May 25th, 1955, Joe Brown and George Band made history with the first ascent of Kanchenjunga (8,586 metres), the world’s third highest mountain. At that time no other British climber had stood on a higher summit. Although Joe Brown’s prowess on the rock is well-known, earning him the nickname of 'the human fly’, it’s less appreciated that he is also considered one of the finest alpinists of his generation.

Joe Brown isn’t known for giving lectures, preferring to stay out of the spotlight and let his achievements speak for themselves. So it makes it even more of a privilege, and an honour, to have Joe give a personal account of their eight-thousander first ascent, with expedition photos, at LLAMFF 2017.
This is only the second time he has ever given this talk. His first was at the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) in London in 2012. Mark Horrell, concluded his review of the RGS lecture, with: “Not only was he funny, but he conjured up all the drama of the expedition in a very matter-of-fact way, never once resorting to hyperbole to overstate his point, as so many mountaineering writers and speakers do… It was a real privilege to be there, and if he ever decides to do another one, make sure you go.”
