Te Tari Take Inland Revenue (IR) is presenting a livestream webinar in association with the New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa’s Property Law Section (PLS) and Legal Executives New Zealand | Rāngai Hāpai Ture o Aotearoa (LENZ).
Join Jayshree Khushal, Technical Specialist and Melissa Siegal Policy Advisor - both members of the IR Property Network, to learn more about the recent property tax law changes. Duncan Terris, PLS representative on IR’s External Reference Group - Housing, will facilitate the webinar, which will allow interactive questions and can support up to 1 hour of CPD.
The session will provide information on the recent changes to the bright-line rule, describe tools and processes IR has put in place to proactively support potential bright-line customers and in particular, will focus on:
*How to avoid the common mistakes / incorrect assumptions currently being made by customers, and tax and legal intermediaries in applying the right-line rule exemptions
*Changes to the main home exclusion; providing some apportionment calculations and examples
*Ownership transfers, including:
-Transfers from parents to their children and implications of the ‘Bank of Mum & Dad’
-Considerations relating to family trusts and bare trusts
Lawyers and legal executives who are looking to update their knowledge in this challenging area.
