Aims
This module teaches the Universal Credit claims process. It enables participants to help people make the most effective claims to UC including those with a range of access needs.

Objectives
By the end of the course participants will:
• Be aware of the key stages involved in making an online claim to UC;
• Know when it is appropriate for a telephone claim to be made and how to facilitate a telephone claim;
• Have seen a partial demonstration of the online claims process;
• Know when the first payment is due to be made and how and when an advance can be made to alleviate hardship;
• Have an awareness of how assessment periods operate in UC and how changes of circumstances take effect awards.

Methods of delivery
This course is delivered online live with a BTC trainer. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and case studies, group discussion and games. Participants will be provided with e-learning supporting material including PowerPoint slides and a comprehensive training pack.

Intended audience
This course is for those working with people of working age on a low income. No previous experience is required although a working knowledge of the wider benefits system is helpful.

Certificate and post course support
You will receive an e-certificate for each full course (Parts 1-4) you complete. To be eligible for access to our free 12 months post-course advice service (including monthly webinars) you will need to complete four BTC online course modules. Although we advise completing Parts 1-4 of this course, you can combine any 4 parts of any BTC course for access to support.

What you will need
Post booking, you will receive a Zoom link and the pack attachments by email. Please download the attachments before logging in. We recommend you use the link to login 15 minutes before the event. You will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. You may also wish to have a pen and paper to make notes.
