Aims
This course, run in partnership with Disability Rights UK, focuses on the disability assessment and claims process in PIP. It enables participants to identify potential entitlement and support claimants through effective form-filling and the medical assessment.

Objectives
By the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand the eligibility conditions for PIP;
  • Know how Disability Living Allowance claimants are affected by PIP;
  • Have studied and feel confident with the disability criteria;
  • Understand the assessment process;
  • Be able to confidently complete the PIP2 assessment form;
  • Help people prepare for a medical assessment;
  • Be able to initiate appeals and give basic advice on the appeals process;
  • Have an awareness of how PIP affects other benefits;
  • Know how to get support after the course.

Methods of delivery
This is a practical course. It is delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, group work and exercises, case studies, group discussion and games.

Intended audience
This course is for staff working with working age people who are affected by a health condition or a disability. No previous experience is required although a working knowledge of the wider benefits system is helpful.
