WRITING THE SUBMISSION

Aims
This module teaches participants how to compose an effective written submission to a tribunal ahead of an appeal hearing. (Please note this module has been updated to reflect changes following the COVID-19 outbreak).

Objectives
By the end of the course participants will:
• Know how to research and present legislation and case law;
• Know how to structure a written submission to set out the claimant’s case clearly and effectively;
• Be able to use a BTC template when working on future cases.

Methods of delivery
This course is delivered online live with a BTC trainer. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and case studies, group discussion and games. Participants will be provided with e-learning supporting material including PowerPoint slides and a comprehensive training pack.

Intended audience
This course is for staff working with people of all ages who are affected by a health condition or a disability (note that a working age PIP case study is used). A working knowledge of Personal Independence Payment and the Work Capability Assessment is assumed. Participants should first attend Preparing for an Appeal Tribunal (1): Assessing the case and Preparing for an Appeal Tribunal (2): Reviewing the DWP submission before attending this module.
