It can be hard to calculate Universal Credit exactly. This half-day course enables participants to calculate UC accurately and without the need to use computer software.

Aims
This half day course looks at the Universal Credit calculation and uses the Benefits Training Co. calculation sheet to practise completing UC calculations based on a range of typical scenarios. It enables participants to complete UC calculations accurately and without the need to use computer software.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will:
• Understand how Universal Credit is calculated.
• Be able to identify the elements that make up a maximum award.
• Know how different types of income and capital are assessed in UC.
• Be able to calculate UC accurately on behalf of clients and service
users.

Intended audience
This course is for participants working with people of working age. A basic understanding of universal credit is assumed. If you are new to universal credit you should consider first attending our Universal Credit Overview course.

Methods of delivery
This course is delivered online live with a BTC trainer. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and case studies, group discussion and games. Participants will be provided with e-learning supporting material including PowerPoint slide handouts, a comprehensive training pack pdf and additional resources. There is a 15 minute break halfway through the course.

What you will need
You will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. Prior to the event, BTC will email you a link which you should use to join the event.

Certificates & post course support
Named participants completing the whole course will receive an e-certificate and regular benefits news updates and guarantees access our free 6 months post-course advice service.

Instructions

This online course is run over Zoom. In the week before the course, you will receive an email with Zoom link and access the supporting materials. You will need to download (or print) the pack (and slides, if you wish) before each part of the course, unless you have selected a printed pack when booking.

You will need a good wifi connection and a suitable computer/laptop to access both the Zoom session and the pack throughout. You may wish to use a separate device for the pack (or split your screen) if you cannot or do not wish to print.

We recommend participants log in a few minutes beforehand. You may also wish to have a pen and paper handy to make notes.
