Details

Create your own cool summer outfit! The Little Fashion Creatives will choose from our sustainable dead-stock fabric from designers such as Alexander McQueen or fabric purchased from our sustainable haberdashery selection, to design and sew their own unique summer outfit. To improve their sewing skills on the machine, we are taking all of them back to basics. With the choice of shorts and a top (or a dress), then moving on to an accessory, the little fashion creatives will learn simple customisation techniques and skills along the way! They will come home with a full ensemble outfit that they are super proud of!

Week 1: Welcome to the Fashion School- if it's a sunny day, we will head to the local green square to get to know your class, learn some hand sewing techniques and introduce you to what you will be learning this term!
Week 2: Designing their skirt/shorts through using various illustration techniques, draping on the mannequin and choosing fabric!
Week 3-5: Sewing their shorts/skirt. The little ones will follow easy clear steps to make their shorts/skirt whilst improving sewing machine skills and basic sewing techniques.
Week 6: Adding any customisation and decorations from fabric scraps- learning to upcycle!
Week 7: Designing their skirt/shorts through using illustration techniques and choosing fabric!
Week 8-10: Sewing their top.
Week 10-12: Accessory time! Summer bag? Headband? Scrunchie? Satchel? Swimming costume bag?

Some of the specific skills include:
Zero-waste sustainable customisations, heat press customisation, embroidery, hand sewing buttons, and inserting elastic!
