REHEARSEING WELL BEING: Shaping Models for Togethering | Sweet Labour Collective + Nuria Bowart

Details

This workshop will combine movement improvisation practices, circle singing, folk dancing, tuning into land and body, and some concepts from within the Axis Syllabus research community. In rehearsing well-being we will question and explore interdependent models for being together, between humans and between humans and other than humans. We are asking, can a dance rehearsal offer a site that trains interdependence rather than independent bodyminds and offers new concepts to sense into what “well-being” can do?

This workshop will culminate in a “public rehearsal performance” on Sunday June 23rd at 1pm. Open to all.

Sweet Labour Art Collective:

We are a group of dancers, musicians, visual and film artists that straddle settler colonial-Indigenous (Oneida Nation) world-making practices. Our collective works within the friction and paradoxes of the colonial relations that brought us all together. We make performance work that intersects film, site-based dance performance, audience participation, contemporary folk, Indigenous dance practices, and audience participatory scores. We make films, live performances, zines, and facilitate workshops for the broader public. These practices emerge from 20-years of community art collaborations along the polluted D’eshkin zibi river in what is now called London, Ontario, Canada. How might these collaborative rehearsal experiments allow us to practice "togethering" across radically different sense-abilities. One key component of this work will ask how dance improvisation practices can offer different methods for listening without understanding, and cultivating response-ability to our ecological entanglements with others.
