Fully-funded by the Wandle English Hub for state-funded schools in the 16 Wandle boroughs.

Join Farrah Serroukh in considering the role that children’s literature plays in helping them make sense of the world around them and their place within it.

Participants will:
• gain an understanding of the key features that constitute quality inclusive, ethnically representative literature.
• gain an appreciation of some of the pitfalls of problematic portrayals and the ways in which this can compromise the reading experience.
• view examples of high quality inclusive titles with opportunities to consider how they might benefit young readers and shape their outlook.
• be given Guidance on key considerations for curating quality inclusive literature and integrating this across your provision.

About Farrah
An experienced teacher and senior leader, Farrah taught across the primary school age range before holding several leadership posts in areas including Literacy, EAL, EMA and Inclusion. She received an MA in Bilingualism in Education. She coordinates CLPE’s partnership and regional work and is the author of CLPE’s Reflecting Realities Survey of Ethnic Representation within UK Children’s Literature 2017. She was awarded the Brenda Eastward Award in recognition of her work on Reflecting Realities.
