What do you get when you combine your favorite restaurant chefs in the Twin Cities, a fabulous non-profit, a bevy of fantastic “celebrity assistants” and a pretty kick-ass kitchen? Well, we like to call that Chef’s Night Off. And, we’re squealing like schoolgirls to tell you more.

Chef’s Night Off is a limited-attendance cooking class led by the best restaurant chefs in our fair cities. Up close and personal. So fill up your glass, put on your apron and be prepared to get busy. Because YOU’RE doing the cooking.

The menu will be created the day of the event so Chef can take inspiration from the seasonal goodies and international flavors of our Midtown Global Market. And who knows what other twists we may have up our sleeves?! We've been known to secretly request an ingredient out of Chef's own refrigerator and throw that into the mix. Or maybe we'll see something Chef likes to make at home...It's always an adventure!

Amazing, feel-good side effect? Your participation will help fund a monthly donation to Minneapolis Public Schools through the efforts of their newly formed True Food Council. We are proud to be members of this organization and donations this year are earmarked to help fund salad bars in Minneapolis elementary schools. Love it!

2014 dates include:

  • Jan 13, 2014: Jamie Malone of Sea Change, also featuring raw bar chef Holly Carson

  • Feb 10: Ian Gray, chef/owner of The Gray House.

  • Mar 24: Thomas Kim, chef/owner of The Rabbit Hole.

  • April 21: Thomas Boemer, executive chef of Corner Table.

  • May 12: Jack Riebel, new project, TBA + former executive chef for The Butcher and The Boar.

Featured “celeb assistants” have included: food editor Stephanie March of Mpls/St. Paul magazine; news personalities Jason DeRusha, Elizabeth Ries, and Jamie Yuccas; food blogger and Minnesota Monthly contributor Stephanie Meyer, radio personalities Bradley Traynor and Colleen Kruse, food columnist Joy Summers...and more! So much more, in fact.
