The Level 1 fire manipulation workshop is a great entry level workshop for absolute beginners or improvers and intermediate fire performers wanting to go back to basics and brush up on foundations and/or bad habits. This is 4 hours of practical and theory combined.
THEORY: You will learn all about H&S, risk assessment and insurances needed to perform. We will discuss costumes and suitable hair and makeup for fire. Equipment maintenance, Knowledge of fuels and fuelling your equipment.
PRACTICAL: The fun part: foundations of handling and manipulating fire. Depending upon your ability we aim to practice 5 fleshing techniques and 3 oral techniques for basic beginner level then progress if some students are more advanced. Some of these include basics in using lower flashpoint fuels which are the foundations to moving into advanced tricks. PLEASE NOTE ORAL IS DEFINED AS PLACING A LIVE FLAME IN YOUR MOUTH.
There will be a mid way break and a 30 minute video and practice time at the end so you can show off your new skills to the world.
Please wear tight fitting dark clothing. Something you aren’t too bothered abut getting damaged or marked with soot. Cotton or denim blends are best. No shiny leggings, tassels, chiffons, shell suits or similar.
You will need to have a fully naked arm for the body burning part of the workshop. Please wear a no sleeved t-shirt or a vest top. Please do also bring warm, “fire friendly” layers as the warehouse can be very cold. Wear practical footwear. You may bring a heel for later practice if you are an experienced fire performer looking to brush up and improve current skills. This is not necessary for beginners.
Please make sure hair is tied back and away from the face. Students with beards, please make sure hair around the mouth is trimmed neatly and as short as possible. No fresh aerosols or perfumes to be used on the day. Bring plenty of water, snacks and a pen and paper for notes.
I will provide all fuels and fire equipment on the day unless otherwise stated. Feel free to bring your own equipment if you have it.

There is paid or on street parking available nearby. If using public transport, it is a 10 minute walk from Tottenham Hale station. As you enter the industrial estate stick tightly to the road on the far right. The unit is half way down on the left hand side. If driving you will need to follow the one way system to the left all the way around and back on yourself to get to the unit. The door numbers are not in order. It is difficult to find so please allow for time.
