Details

We will talk through the more commonly used special effects used for fire performance on stage: Lycopodium, two types of metal powder effects and fire propane bubbles. We will talk through how to safely prepare each of these effects considering health and safety, PPE and risk assessments. All attendees must have completed my fire level 1 introduction to fire manipulation and performance or have experience with professional fire performance to apply these special effects.

The ticket cost covers a 100g tub of each sparkle powder and 200g of lycopodium. Propane bubbles will also be provided within the cost of this workshop. Please bring a fire prop of your choice to apply and practice with the metal special effect powders. You will also need a lyco cane to add your powder to for this part of the course. I will have spares to lend but not enough for everyone. Please let me know asap if you do not have these.

This workshop offers a basic introduction and understanding of special effects used within fire performance. Please note this is not a choreography or act creation workshop.

Instructions

PLEASE BRING ANTIHISTAMENES AND INHALERS IF YOU ARE ASTHMATIC OR HAVE ANY ALERGIES. I WILL PROVIDE PARTICLE MASKS FOR POWDER PREPARATIONS.
Please wear tight fitting dark clothing. Something you aren't too bothered about getting damaged or marked with soot. Cotton or denim blends are best. No shiny leggings, tassels, chiffons, shell suits or similar.

You will need to have a fully naked arm for the propane bubble part of the workshop. Please wear a no sleeved t-shirt or a vest top. Please do also bring warm, “fire friendly” layers as the warehouse can be very cold. Wear practical footwear.
