Ableton Live: Intro to Soundtracking and Scoring your work

This introduction to using MIDI in Ableton Live will give you the tools you need to create music for your projects.

Designed for people with some knowledge of Live, or as a follow up to Intro to Live for Editing and Sound Design, this session will introduce you to MIDI and how use it to make music as well as more advanced sound design with Live.

This online session will be hands-on with exercises and time for questions. If you don't have a copy of Live, you can download a 90-day free trial. By the end of our time you will learn how to: create and manipulate MIDI files; use, swap, and alter MIDI instruments; create your own MIDI instruments; insert and automate effects, including spatial audio effects; and more!

Katie Semro is an audio creator making music, audio art, and documentaries.
She has produced, edited, sound designed and scored 119 podcast episodes since 2019. Her work has appeared on 39 radio stations across the country. Katie's audio art installation Trust me, I'm a Doctor was exhibited at Sound Scene Fest 2022 at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. She is currently working on an audio art performance piece for Nova Arts in Keene, NH in June, and her audioscapes of the artists will accompany the exhibit What We Make of This World at the Fountain Street Gallery, Boston in April. She loves making music with Ableton Live and runs an online group called Women with Live to create positive experiences for women with music technology.
