The Return of the Hornton Anglo-Saxon Brooches

Saturday, 16 November '19   6pm – 8pm GMT
Banbury Museum Trust, Castle Quay Shopping Centre, Banbury, OX16 2PQ

Details

This very special evening marks the return of the Hornton Anglo-Saxon brooches and beads, that date from the 6th century AD. Once owned by a wealthy Saxon woman living in Hornton near Banbury, they were discovered in the 1880s. Now 140 years later, they return from the British Museum, to be displayed in Banbury Museum.
The brooches will be unveiled formally this evening, and at 7pm John Blair, Professor of Medieval History and Archaeology, Queens College Oxford, will give the talk, The Early Anglo-Saxons in Oxfordshire: New Evidence and New Ideas, referring to the Hornton brooches.
Join us for a glass of wine, be the first to see the brooches, and hear John Blair talk about Oxfordshire’s Anglo-Saxon ancestors
