🐶 Scentwork for Settling

Looking for ways to give your dog a workout and help them settle better?

This three week course will give you an introduction into using scent to tire out busy-brained dogs. All breeds and ages are welcome for this fun introduction to keeping their noses busy and out of trouble!

We'll teach you how to harness the power of your dog's nose for high quality enrichment games that can be done anywhere - indoors or out! You'll learn how to teach your dog to seek out a specific scent to get them using their nose and brains in an activity that is both mentally and physically stimulating.

For many dogs, using their nose to hunt is part of their natural drive and can be the cause of some common behaviour problems. When natural instinct isn't harnessed enough through games and enrichment, it can leave some dogs with unmet needs - resulting in frustration and boredom symptoms such as hyperactivity, barking, chasing, jumping up and generally not settling well. Finding ways to use these can really make a difference to their overall behaviour.

On this course you'll learn to:

• use a distinct scent to focus your dog
• teach them to search for the scent on cue
• build on this behaviour for lasting results

Anyone can do this type of training. There is no complicated set up or expensive equipment for these games, nor do you need a large space or lots of spare time, so you can play them almost immediately after the course is done and will receive a starter set at the end of the course so you can begin straight away. We provide all of the equipment needed to train and practise the behaviour and you can continue at home with common household objects.

You will just need your dog's usual walking equipment for the class (flat collar and/or harness, standard 4-6ft lead) and lots of small tasty treats (think pinky fingernail sized).
