If you're unsure whether your child is old enough to attend, please contact rachel4learninginnature@gmail.com to confirm. (Children below this age are welcome to attend this session if they also attend our Forest School Kindergarten sessions on Fridays; please speak to Rach at rachel4learninginnature@gmail.com before booking.)

This is a Forest School session. A central principle of Forest School is regular and long-term attendance. As such, one taster session can be booked per attendee, after which time we ask that a full block booking is made.

Our Adventures:

As is usual at Beccles Forest Schools, we facilitate the adventures that the children and young people want to embark on. We start and end with circle time, and gather together for lunch, but otherwise this is a very child-led session that heads in all sorts of creative directions!

A typical Tuesday might be spent prowling around in the land of Queen Cat or deeply immersed in creating instruments from what we find on The Wild Meadow. Children will be given the opportunity to light a fire and cook food on it, use tools and immerse themselves in nature- climbing trees, pond-dipping in the dyke or exploring muddy puddles.

It is an incredible joy to spend Tuesdays with this wonderful bunch of children and be a part of their Home Ed journeys.

We welcome new attendees to book a taster session before booking a block of sessions.

We are an Ofsted registered setting. Parents who are eligible to claim money back for childcare can do so for this session.

Instructions

You Will Need:

Suitable clothing:

  • thick trousers and long sleeves to protect against nettles and insect bites
  • waterproof jacket and trousers
  • extra fleece or jumper
  • sturdy close-toe shoes such as walking boots
  • sun/winter hat
  • thermal layers and winter coat, if cold
  • long hair must be tied back for safety.

Please Bring:

  • zipped bag to keep everything tidy
  • change of clothing (including socks) - we often get muddy!
  • packed lunch, plenty of water to drink and extra snacks if required (with an ice pack if the weather is warm)
  • cup, plate, knife/ fork/ spoon for food cooked on the fire

(Note: we have a NO NUTS policy and ask you to take all packaging away with you to re-use/recycle where possible).

TOP TIPS:

  • Wellies are not warm. Best to send in trainers and bring wellies to change into for puddle jumping, then they can change back into trainers when their toes get cold.

  • At least 2 spare pairs of socks are a good idea for long days, and two sets of spare clothes if they LOVE puddles.

  • Layers of thin clothing are ideal, as they can shed one layer without getting chilly, and the air between the layers keeps the children warmer for longer.

  • If an attendee has sensory issues, it is a good idea to send a tea towel/small hand towel to dry their hands after washing. We just air dry ours, but our hands are bigger and we are quite used to it.

  • Carrier bags can stop the rest of the bag getting wet from the wet clothes.

  • We have plenty of drinking water to refill bottles with.
