Details

For the quilt novice, quilt curious, quilter needing a refresher, or self-taught quilter, it's our Intro to Quilting Workshop Series with Niku, at the cozy Beehive Craft Studio!

You: can confidently use a sewing machine and sew a straight line
If you're not sure if you have the sewing machine skills, we can schedule you for a one-on-one lesson ahead of time to get you up to speed, just email me at xostitches@gmail.com

The Class: Designed as a foundational quilting series to take you through all the basics of making a quilt from start to finish. You will make a fabulous lap quilt in class and be ready to jump into the wide wonderful world of quilting.

Note: the quilt pattern we are using has been carefully chosen for accessibility, ease, to practice fundamental techniques, and ability to work on between sessions depending on individual pace.

Within the pattern, there is room for creativity in design, fabric selection, and layout. I'm happy to help you make some small individual adjustments to the pattern if time and your skill level will allow you to finish successfully in our time frame.

We'll cover: precision cutting with rotary and quilting rulers, selecting materials, how to use or create patterns, piecing blocks and quilt tops, using a 1/4" foot, chain piecing, assembling, quilt basting and quilting, binding a quilt, quilt labels, quilt care, essential quilting tools and supplies.

Schedule: meeting on these Sundays from 10am - 1pm 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/18
This pacing allows time for additional work between classes, depending on individual pacing and interest.

You'll leave the series with:

A finished lap/baby/mini quilt suitable to use in your everyday life
The skill to cut precisely using quilter's tools, piece a quilt top, blocks, and rows, to match points, press seams effectively, true up blocks
My best tips for quilting on a domestic sewing machine, guidance and advice
Guidance in choosing future quilt patterns and how to continue learning on your quilt journey
Ability to make and apply quilt binding
