This informal course is intended to give finance officers the knowledge to propose a clear evidence based budget to members.

If your larger council uses accounting software for budgeting, we will have part of the group looking at how to make the software work for you while those from smaller councils looking at how best to get an overall picture using spreadsheets.

Topics include zero base and incremental budgeting, medium and long term capital planning, earmarking, spotting the gaps, assessing contingencies as well as trouble shooting past problems and sharing ideas and suggestions.

We will also look at available best practice via the Transparency Code.

Suitable Audience
Finance officers and clerks. We recommend that finance officers attend this session in advance of the budget setting season.

Instructions

Please have a copy of your last year budget and accounts to hand.

Please join from a PC, laptop or tablet rather than a mobile phone. This is to ensure you can see the screen properly.

An email will be sent to all delegates providing the joining link details for this session 6 hours before the course. Please ensure you have receipt of this within normal business hours on the day of the event, or contact the Hampshire ALC Team at training@hampshirealc.org.uk before 4.00pm to avoid any disruption to your accessibility of the session.
