When horses and ponies have problems regulating the insulin levels in their blood a condition called Equine Metabolic Syndrome can occur. This syndrome tends to have three main features: Insulin resistance, a tendency to being overweight and the occurrence of laminitis.
This talk will discuss how Equine Metabolic Syndrome develops, how a veterinarian can diagnose it, and what tools are available to control this condition.

Dr Lies Beekhuis DVM Dip ECBHM MRCVS is a veterinarian who originates from The Netherlands. She graduated from Utrecht University in 2006.
Lies has worked at universities and in private practice. Since 2022, she owns Tivy Vets, a large animal veterinary practice just outside Newcastle Emlyn in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
