LIVE VIRTUAL: Supporting the Posterior Baby: A Shift in Perspective

In our unique Supporting the Posterior Baby workshop, topics include dynamics and biomechanics and the most recent obstetrical and anthropological research in regards to pelvic shape variation, baby positioning, and fetal descent and rotation. We analyze the often cited concerns about posterior positioning and reframe them in light of current research. We then develop and practice observational skills and positions for recognizing fetal positioning and supporting descent and rotation for efficient labor progress and autonomy for the birthing person.

​This workshop for birth support professionals will benefit prenatal and birth workers - doulas, midwives, obstetricians, nurses, childbirth educators, chiropractors, massage therapists - both new and experienced. Emphasis is placed on better understanding the relationship between pelvic dynamics and fetal positioning and the movement and positions that facilitate labor progress. Information is presented in an interactive hands-on format that encourages participation to facilitate anatomical understanding, the development of skills and techniques for encouraging clients to feel empowered in their bodies, and the positions, techniques, and concepts for birth professionals to feel confident in supporting posterior babies through labors both medicated and unmedicated, in any setting.

Handouts are included in the workshop and are intended to be used as a reference after completion of the workshop. Our positioning handbooks (different than the handouts) are available at a discounted rate with the purchase of a workshop ticket.
